XMartial Shorts Review

This is a sponsored post by XMartial.com. The apparel discussed was sent as a review sample, and The Fight Site has an affiliate link with XMartial.com as well. All thoughts and opinions expressed below are an honest review of the product received.

XMartial reached out to me about reviewing one of their products, and let me have a pick on which shorts I’d like to try. I’ll be honest, I rarely bought shorts from companies online, tending to stick with shorts from the gyms I’ve trained at. I could trust the gym to supply good, quality products. From Xmartial, the Mr. Starr Muay Thai Shorts caught my eye.

First impressions of the shorts, very impressed to say the least. The quality of the stitching in particular caught my eye. One of my personal issues with a lot of shorts for combat sports is the lack of material strength. They will either be too rigid, or too stretchy. This can lead to tears along the seams in relatively low intense training environments, just due to the nature of how they are made.

With these shorts, there’s varying thickness in the material, and more stitching in higher stress areas that could lead to tears from feet or hands getting stuck, shorts grabbing, or just wear and tear. There was thought put into the design, and I appreciate that.

The artwork itself looks fantastic, and if that’s the level of quality you can expect across the board, that’s a big plus as well.

The fit is different than what I’m used to with typical MMA/BJJ shorts. This might be a feature of the Muay Thai style shorts, but the waistband is a bit tight. I got a large (34) and it fit of course, and I love the fit overall, but it can be tighter than you might expect, so order your pair accordingly. Granted, I’m a bit out of shape, so in fight shape, it would be perfect.

These shorts come to just above mid-thigh for me. I don’t believe this particular pair comes in longer shorts, but they do have a really great selection to choose from at different lengths, though the board shorts style does have a bit more limited of a selection.

If there’s a downside to the shorts, it’s really going to be due to preference of length. I got scratched during training on my upper thigh, which is unlikely with longer shorts. That being said, wearing compression pants/spats under it solves that issue entirely.

Overall, I’d rate the shorts as follows:

Fit and Finish/Material Quality: 5 out of 5 stars. I love the feel, the fit, the stitching, and the design. It really seems to be a quality product, with thought and effort put into making the design of the shorts geared toward something built to last, while also looking and feeling great.

True to Size Fit: 4 out of 5 stars. It is a bit tight around my waist, and you may want to consider a size up, depending on your body type. It doesn’t feel like it’s squeezing me or making me uncomfortable, but I definitely would need a 36 as opposed to the 34 I got (for now). It is motivating me to trim down a bit though.

Final thoughts: Would recommend their products, and not just due to the affiliate code we have. I was initially just asked to do a review of the shorts, but I like them that much that I’m comfortable with recommending them and asked them for the affiliate code myself. They have a warranty as well, and you can take a look at their equipment and gear, see what might work for you, and if you like something, feel free to let us know that you heard about them/made the purchase through the site!

Visit Xmartial.com and use the code THEFIGTHSITE at checkout for 10% off the purchase. Highly recommend the Mr. Starr shorts, and you too can be called “Bikini Bottom” at your gym!
