Kezhik Mongush was the story of the weight as the talented Tuvan was able to pull off a shocking upset by pin in a comeback effort down 9-0 over top ranked Bashir Magomedov in the round of 32 and use an absolutely monumental throw in the quarterfinals to beat Magomedrasul Dalgatov while down 9-4 with 30 seconds left in the match. Mongush would go down in a massive 9-0 hole to reigning national champion #3 (61) Abasgadzhi Magomedov but rally back with two takedowns to make the final score 9-4 and show his status as one of the best in the world was no fluke. 2021 Russian Nationals runner-up #2 Muslim Mekhtikhanov looked absolutely dominant on the day, outsourcing his competition 47-5 and beating the likes of #4 Dzhabrail Gairbekov and #6 Dinislam Takhtarov to make his second Russian Nationals finals.
